after eden | painting

after all these years i see that i was mistaken about eve in the beginning; it is better to live outside the garden with her than inside it without her. -mark twain

after eden (24" x 48")

"after eden" started out as a sketch one day, minus the roses, and then ended up filled in with sharpie. after the sharpie, she ended up cut into two pieces. and now... she is painted.

this painting would be my first time attempting to paint roses. i started off with a pink, more realistic-like rose and ended up painting over it...

i decided it was too soft for what i was going for. it needed to be something more dark and mysterious. the deep red just painted more of a story. not necessarily the story of adam and eve and the garden, but that's kind of where my mind takes me when i think about this piece. simple and dark with splashes of bold and beautiful.
