new orleans

"laissez les bons temps rouler"
(a new orleans saying of "let the good times roll")

another successful, annual mother/daughter trip complete.
only this time, one of my best gals, nikki, was able to join us.

the main thing we heard from people that knew we were going to "nola" was how capital-a-m-a-z-i-n-g the food is.

boy-oh-boy were they right.

muffulettas that will make your taste buds literally cry.
fried okra (let me repeat that) fried okra!!
some kind of genius fried corndog treat.
(which i ate just before my burger with fried egg and peanut butter on a pretzel bun).
and then there are the po-boy sandwiches.

*update: i no longer eat meat, dairy or eggs, but i will never forget how much i loved this food.*








i'm not even an ounce guilty with how much bread, cheese, fried and odd meats i consumed.
(note that i don't have any photos of their famous seafood. 
i didn't partake in it, but my family did and they loved every moment of it.)

i did partake in the drinks, though.










the culture and all-around vibe of my new favorite city has definiely made it easy for me to start planning my next trip there.

we have even been invited back for an authentic homemade louisiana meal by a local artist and my new friend... but he gets his own blog post.



























mardi gras beads (everywhere).
smelly, festive streets.
gorgeous, plant and celebrity-draped balconies.
local art.
eclectic street music.
intoxicated people, young and old.
the m-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i.
never-ending culture.
food.

are we back there yet??
